KS1 Economic Wellbeing Pack

Four lessons that take children from their own money choices to a fair decision made together as a class. Need or want? Now or later? Who decides, and is it fair?

ACT Quality Mark for citizenship education resources

ACT Quality Mark
For citizenship education resources, awarded by the Association for Citizenship Teaching, October 2026. Awarded to this pack.

What is in the four lessons

  1. Needs and wants. Is a second football a need for a class when one already works? Pupils give reasons and hear other views.
  2. Where money comes from and goes. Fictional sources and uses of money, including saving and paying digitally.
  3. When buying is made easy. In-game purchase prompts, and who is responsible for protecting children.
  4. From my choice to our choice. The class looks at a real shared concern, decides fairly and acts on it. Pupils never handle or spend money.

The guide includes a short teacher-led route for younger KS1 pupils, cross-curricular links, a citizenship glossary, and a template letter and project sheet for contacting someone in the community.

Want the full programme too?

The pack stands on its own. Schools that want more can apply for a funded place on our seven-week programme for Reception to Year 2, built around the picture book Ava Saves Up! The School Edition of that book holds the Financial Education Quality Mark, awarded by Young Enterprise, supported by the Money and Pensions Service (Issue 0195, September 2026).
